Dr. Ashu Kumar Gupta

Dr. Ashu Kumar Gupta is a highly accomplished academician, administrator, and dental professional with an illustrious career spanning nearly four decades in healthcare, dental education, and institutional leadership. With more than 38 years of professional experience, including 29 years of teaching experience and over 18 years as Professor and Head of Department, he has made significant contributions to dental education and public health in India.
Before joining Jaipur Dental College as Principal, Dr. Gupta served as Principal of H.P. Government Dental College and Dean, Faculty of Dental Sciences, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, and was also associated with the Faculty of Dental Sciences, Atal Medical and Research University, Mandi. His distinguished tenure in academic administration and institutional development has earned him widespread recognition across the country.
Dr. Gupta has served as a Member of the Dental Council of India (DCI) for three terms and was also an Executive Member of the Dental Council of India. He has chaired and contributed to several important committees of DCI, including Undergraduate Education, Postgraduate Education, Administrative & Finance, Grievances, Library Consortium, Scrutiny, and Anti-Ragging Committees.
A respected expert in dental education, he has been a Specialist Member for various Public Service Commissions and Selection Boards, including Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission, Bihar Public Service Commission, Punjab University, and Pt. B.D. Sharma University of Health Sciences. He has also served on Boards of Studies and Faculty of Dental Sciences for several years.
Dr. Gupta has conducted over 150 inspections as a Dental Council of India Inspector and has participated in numerous academic and institutional assessments, including university and UGC inspections. He has served as an external examiner for BDS and MDS examinations at various universities and has chaired scientific sessions at numerous national conferences.
His outstanding contributions have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including:
- Certificate of Excellence from the Hon’ble Governor of Himachal Pradesh for contributions to health services.
- Certificate of Appreciation from the Dental Council of India and the Vice Chancellor of King George’s Medical University for outstanding service to the dental profession.
- Best All Round Graduate Award (1986) from Government Dental College, Goa.
Beyond academics and administration, Dr. Gupta has actively contributed to public awareness through educational programs on dental health, anti-ragging initiatives, and social awareness campaigns broadcast on Akashwani Shimla, Doordarshan Shimla, and Rajya Sabha TV.
An accomplished sportsman and dedicated social worker, he has represented Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Kendriya Vidyalaya in national-level Table Tennis competitions under SGFI and continues to contribute to society through various social and community initiatives.
